The Carpet
Floor system for loading and off-loading vehicles does not eat into the
useable space within your facilities. It is the only system type that can
accommodate traffic flow over it. The Carpet Floor system is designed for
the loading of irregular shaped loads such as postal bags, waste containers
as well as white goods, paper reels or wooden pallets and all done within
minutes. This method of moving the load ensures that there is no possibility
of damage to the product or packaging during the process.
The system
consists of two drive winches, cables and a vehicle wide carpet. In the
vehicle a cable winch unit is mounted at the front bulkhead, it will pull
the conveyer carpet and load into the vehicle. For off-loading, a tail
mounted cable winch winds up the carpet conveyor as it pulls the carpet and
load out.
The carpet is
made from 4 mm thick PVC coated material with two textile layers to provide
a high tensile strength material. The vehicle carpet can be hydraulically
wound from the tractor unit PTO or electrically from an external source;
dependant on the operation. Two differently rated systems are available, one
designed for loads of up 33,000 lbs and another for loads up 66,000 lbs.
Dock and vehicle carpet speeds must be synchronized to ensure a safe and
reliable operation.
The dock
cable winch units are mounted below floor level and generally at the front
of the dock, but can be located at the rear and be pit mounted and covered
over. A major benefit of the Carpet floor concept is that both dock and
vehicle can interface with other loading systems such as powered rollers or
Slipchain. The customer's operational requirements may dictate that the
vehicle be loaded by one means and off-loaded by another. On the dock the
carpet conveyor can be endless covering the complete floor at all times.
This provides a flush floor so the conveyor may be driven over by fork lift
trucks for access into the trailer. Vehicular traffic is permitted over the
carpet floor dock but it is advisable that regular and prolonged fork lift
truck maneuvering is avoided and is not planned in as part of the operation.
The dock can
be loaded or off-loaded from the rear or either side of the dock. The
control of the carpet floor system can be by a locally mounted control unit
or can be part of the management and logistic control structure and
integrated with other conveyors or lifting devices. The actual cargo of
pallets, paper reels or loose baggage will determine the method of
operation.
