Air Systems
The Pneumatic Roller track,
Powered Cargo Roller and the Slipchain loading system draw air from
the vehicle's air operated wheel brake system to function . Air in excess of
80 PSI is tapped off from the main vehicle brake system and fed to an
auxiliary tank(s) via a Pressure Protection Value, this valve maintains the
integrity of the vehicle brakes and must always be fitted as part of a
Rollerbed system.
System air is fed via plastic
air tubes and push-in connectors from the auxiliary air tank(s) to a control
box containing a pressure regulating valve and control valve. The
incoming air is regulated to 28~32 PSI and controlled by a push-pull operated
control valve. The number of regulator valves and control valves
within the control box depends on the complexity of the system to be controlled and will be
determined by the manner in which the customer wishes to use the system.
Slipchain
system air control boxes generally contain at least two operating valves and
two regulators to cope with the different pneumatic pressures involved. The
operating valves can be push-pull or solenoid operated depending on the use of the trailer. In
the case of Slipchain trailers the air control boxes are often externally
electrically controlled and /or integrated into a factory or distribution center main
logistics control program.
Every system
is equipped with
at least one air tank to store pressurized air for use by any ancillary
system. Depending on the size of the system and the frequency of operation,
additional air tanks may be required. In this
situation two tanks can be utilized. There are occasions when an emergency reserve
is specified, then two tanks and a change over valve would be installed. In
this case one full air tank can be segregated from the main system to ensure an
air supply
available when needed.
A Track
Isolation Valve (TIV) assembly is included to provide an in-service
benefit in the unlikely event of an airbag failure. Should an airbag develop
a leak a specific valve on TIV can be selected to isolate the damaged airbag and permit the
remaining air bags to be inflated normally.
